EcoHomes is the accepted assessment methodology to determine the environmental impact of new and existing housing developments. It was developed by and is administered by the Building Research Establishment, including all training and quality assurance. Schemes are assessed and given an overall rating of Pass, Good, Very Good or Excellent.

Assessments are now frequently requested by Local Authority Planning Departments as an integral element of planning applications and all schemes receiving funding from the Housing Corporation must achieve a minimum rating of Very Good.
